History and Vision

The Christian Education Association of Alberta (CHREDA) was incorporated in 1978 as a charitable non-profit organization, for the purpose of operating a Christian school.

In 1978, an ECS program (kindergarten) began in Sherwood Park.  The following year the ECS was moved to the Fort Saskatchewan Medical Center and the Fort Saskatchewan Christian School was opened in the Fort Saskatchewan Alliance Church Facility.  In September, 1985, the ECS program was relocated to its existing site.

The Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) Curriculum was selected for grades 1-12.  This individualized program was used until June, 1984.  Beginning with the 1984-1985 school year, the CHREDA Board, acting on the direction given by the Association's membership, chose to use the Alberta Curriculum modified where necessary so as to be consistent with the philosophical statement and purpose set by CHREDA.

In September of 2000, Fort Saskatchewan Christian School became an Alternative Christian Program within Elk Island Public Schools.  This move has permitted Fort Saskatchewan Christian School to access greater levels of funding and resources, while still protecting our Christian distinctives.

In the 2008-2009 school year, based on the September 30th calculation, FSCS had a total enrolment of 230 students.  With a growing interest in Christian education, the future for Fort Christian looks bright.  This growing interest amongst parents to see their children taught in the ways of the Lord has pressed the school to address future growth needs.  We are continually reminded of God's faithfulness and awesome presence as HE continues the awesome work which He started.

Over the next three years, our school admin team, Chreda, and Elk Island Public Schools will be hard at work as they build a new school for Fort Christian. Full funding for a new school was announced by the Alberta government in the Spring of 2008.

Fort Saskatchewan Christian School has a vision to serve, minister and disciple to 350+ students so that they, in turn, may serve, minister and disciple others.  Fort Christian seeks to advance God's kingdom.

Our mission statement is, "to assist families by providing students with a Christ-centered, biblically directed education which instills the vision and practice of excellence in academics, moral character and service to others."
